Birak

Aboriginal Noongar Season Art Poster

This product includes a museum-quality poster made of thick matte paper. No frame is included.

This art poster by Joshua Kyle is part of the Noongar seasons, a collection of six posters celebrating the special connection the Aboriginal people of the south west of Australia have with the land. The Noongar people recognise six distinct seasons within the year, each coinciding with a change in the native flora and fauna.

The season of Birak arrives between December and January and brings with it warmer weather and a relief from the rain. Represented by the colour red, this season symbolises heat, sun and fire. During this season, the Moodjar tree begins to bloom, producing bright yellow flowers, and earning itself the nickname of the Western Australia Christmas Tree.
